Li Ma
I am a Chinese Canadian who grew up in the East and was educated in the West. After graduating from university in Canada, I started my long career journey at financial institutions and currently am working for Barclays Japan. I majored in economics and Japanese at the University of British Columbia and have an MBA from McGill University. Having lived and worked in Japan for more than a decade, I am extremely happy to be a member of the CCCJ. I hope to work with my fellow members to contribute to the organization.
David Macdonald
Born in Canada, raised in Germany, I call Japan home. From Kingston, I arrived in Aomori on the JET program in 1995. Since 1999 I’ve stood in the front ranks of the digital media revolution – DoCoMo and i-mode, Disney, YouTube, and Discovery. Post-merger, I’m now Vice President Networks Japan, Warner Bros. Discovery. I joined the Chamber to start contributing back to the Canadian-Japanese business community. I’m passionate about diversity, inclusion, and the power of a global mindset.
Chiaki Nonaka
I am an assistant manager in the ESG Department at Kaneka Corporation, a chemical company that provides a range of products globally. Before taking my current position, I worked in the pharmaceutical industry as a corporate secretariat. I graduated from the University of Lethbridge in 2011 with an MSc in management. I spent seven years in Alberta, where I enjoyed the panorama of the Rockies. I became a CCCJ member to be a part of the Canadian community.
Kevin Plastow
I think there could be just a few people in the CCCJ who might remember me. I was a member for several years a few years back, even serving as a director for a couple of them. I look forward to meeting you all at upcoming events and doing what I can to help make the chamber an even better organization. For those who see my company name—and think, “Wow, that BTS!?”—sorry to disappoint; we are a forty-year-old Swedish company, not a boy band out of South Korea. Apologies for any confusion caused.

Cody Poulton
I taught courses about Japan at the University of Victoria for thirty-two years before retiring at the end of 2020. A specialist in Japanese theatre, I am the author, editor and co-editor of many books on modern Japanese drama. My wife, Mitsuko, and I moved back to Japan in the middle of the pandemic. I think it a good idea to get to know more fellow Canadians living here by becoming a member of the CCCJ.
