Tokyo to Host Japan’s First Deaflympics in 2025

In a first for Japan, the 2025 Summer Deaflympics—an international multi-sport event for the hearing impaired—are coming to Tokyo. Since the first Deaflympics Summer Games in 1924, the Games have been held once every two years, alternating between summer and winter editions just like the Olympics and Paralympics.

The Yomiuri Shimbun says the Games will take place from November 15 to 26, with the opening and closing ceremonies at Komazawa Olympic Park in Tokyo. Fukushima and Shizuoka prefectures will also serve as host venues. “We want to add to the movement and legacy of the Olympics and Paralympics and spur further changes to bring about a more inclusive society,” said President Fujisaburo Ishino of the Japanese Federation of the Deaf.
