Letter from the Chair

The Canada–Japan business relationship continues to gain momentum. Recent developments provide many reasons for optimism.

First, congratulations to AltaGas on the successful launch of the first of two new LPG vessels. This milestone represents an important step in strengthening Canada’s energy partnership with Japan and underscores the long-term commitment of Canadian industry to supporting Japan’s energy security and economic growth.

We are also encouraged by the deepening ties between the Canadian and Japanese business communities. The Team Canada Trade Mission scheduled for June will bring one of the largest Canadian delegations ever to Japan, demonstrating the growing importance of our bilateral relationship and the significant opportunities that exist for collaboration across a wide range of sectors.

Looking ahead, the CCCJ is pleased to support the upcoming Japan-Canada Chambers Council meetings this September in Tokyo and Osaka. These meetings will provide an important platform for business leaders and stakeholders from both countries to exchange ideas, strengthen partnerships and identify new opportunities for cooperation.

Another encouraging sign is the record number of Canadian MBA programs visiting Japan this year, including executive MBA and graduate programs from McGill University, HEC Montréal, Université Laval, the University of Toronto and others. Their presence is a testament to Japan’s renewed academic and professional interest in Canada and reflects the growing people-to-people connections that underpin our bilateral relationship.

Finally, the CCCJ itself continues to demonstrate remarkable vitality. This year’s Board elections attracted an outstanding turnout of 12 candidates, reflecting the strong engagement of our membership and the enthusiasm of professionals committed to advancing the Chamber’s mission. I would also like to thank Governor Christian Howes, who will not be running this term, for his support over the years. We know that he will continue to be active in our committees. Merci Christian!

Together, these developments highlight the strength and growing dynamism of the Canada-Japan relationship. We look forward to building on this momentum and continuing to foster stronger commercial, educational and cultural ties between our two countries.
